Reflections of a Wannabe Teacher.

So I finished my work placement last week.

Working within the school for 2 weeks was such a fantastic opportunity, especially getting stuck in to a more arty way of working! I’ve missed being part of such a messy and creativity fuelled environment. It was great to see different approaches to techniques and being re-introduced to methods that I have been unfamiliar with for such a long time.

Being two years in to my degree I have found myself becoming used to a neater, more refined way of working which is so far from what I used to be like at A-level, so working back in this way has definitely been a development welcomed with open arms, especially with my third year and research for my FMP looming.

That aside though, working with so many different classes meant I got a variety of experience and I started t feel myself develop as an individual, from the nervous stuttering mess on the first day to the confident and organised teaching assistant I became towards the end of my experience I felt I was able to pass on skills that I was confident with as well as learning news ones.

After a busy two weeks students produced some great outcomes to different projects that I started to work on with them. All responses I had from students were very positive and they all seemed to enjoy introducing fashion elements in to their work!

Me+Teaching= To Be Continued…

For my work placement I’ll be returning to the classroom, teaching high school children in textiles and fashion. I want to try and do something that’s a bit fun, quirky and something that I know they wouldn’t normally be doing in their lessons.

Starting to think about how the trend of peter pan collars I think this is something that can be elaborated on and I’d like to start taking an ‘arty farty’ approach t this by perhaps doing some paper collars and fashion creations.

Michael  Cepress has really created some interesting collars using papers…

After watching the Mary Portas series ‘Mary’s Bottom Line’ on Channel 4 I’ve been truely inspired to think about a way in which I could Possibly use totally british manufactured fabrics and materials in my final collection next year. It’ll be a challenge but I think It’ll be worth while.

Throughout the program it gave a great insight in to the ins and outs of creating a new brand from sourcing fabrics to thinking about the witty tag lines they could put on their packaging. The program highlighted the necessity for boosting British manufacturing in today’s society  whilst trying to eliminate the problem of unemployment and helping the current economical downfall.

Mary Portas demonstrated great customer research strategies and thought about a way to keep the customer interested….keep it affordable, pretty but cheap.

They’ve been a great success in the end. The Knickers are virtually impossible to get your hands on they have been that popular. I managed to get hold of a pair on the internet. I was more interested about the packaging….I suppose that’s just me being sad.

Love this film so much…. and Rhys Ifans of course :)

Casually watching This Morning and up popped this exhibition that I would love to  go to but my student lack of funds means I can’t :/

The Terry O’neill- Reworked exhibition at the Rook & Raven in London is a showcase of images created in the 20th century, reworked by image makers of today. I’m not going to lie, I hadn’t heard of any of the artists that were featured in the exhibition but as I started to look in to it I found some really interesting pieces by Curtis Kulig and Pam Glew which I just Loved.

Looking at the reworks of classic imagery makes me think about how effective the layering up of media can be, as I start to develop my Photoshop skills further it might be interesting to start incorporating elements of imagery to turn photography in to art photographs. an element which I lightly touched on last year.

Defiantly inspirational.

I think Thats enough designing for one day…. been a busy bee!

some more designs I’m working on, this time I’m designing tights!

I’m really hoping these don’t sell out so I can go, the line up looks awesome!!!
